Although Neal and Delores are drawn into the turf of the same adversary, they each have reasons to keep their investigations a secret. That is, until there’s a body.

Mr. Thyfault seems to be succeeding in his creative writing skills! After enjoying his first book, I was excited to experience the character development of Neal Randolph. The development and growth of this character along with the plot made this a very compelling and enjoyable read. I am looking forward to the third Neal Randolph mystery.
Another good page turner. I'm enjoying the development of the characters in this second book. Looking forward to book three!
I have to say this was quite an enjoyable book. There was a lot to it & it really held my attention. There were some twists & turns I did not expect. The author is very thorough with good details. Enjoyed it. Thanks a lot !!
As a retired Detective Lieutenant with the Aspen Colorado Police Department, David's story reminded me of a skill that I had to learn over time Be Patient.
The story requires the reader to be exactly that. Like a hunter stalking its prey, the author cautiously moves along, as though setting traps. If the reader goes impatient, the prize will never be obtained. So, for those reading the story, "be patient." There is a reason for the methodology.
Once the author springs the trap, hang on. All falls into place. Questions are answered. That, and a twist surprise thrown in for good measure.
I found myself reading one phrase repeatedly. Maybe because I've tried to learn and relearn it over the course of my life "Being kind over being correct." You, like I, may ask yourself, "Would I rather be right, or be happy."
If for no other reason, read the story for that bit of wisdom alone.
Palmdale, CA (LA burb). Cal-Vista apartments. Detective Delores Sanchez (26, mother, Latino undercover LAPD, aka Lorraine Martinez, criminology degree) was doing a stake out Dixon Browne (mgr., serial rapist) whom she hoped to arrest.
Dixon had a habit of bilking the renters out of various things of his personal interest only.
Lorraine Martinez & her so called husband Juan Hernandez rented/lived # 202.
Rodger Kraft (Cal-Vista apts. owner, terminal cancer) met with the liaison Clay Clayborne (commercial broker, Milky Way Trust), DS Myles “Birdman” Cooper (Stump’s adopted dad, LAPD), & Neal “Stump” Joseph Randolph (16, adopted son).
They also were introduced to Dixon.
Stump was hired to take over the apartment maintenance.
Delores was seeing Jeanine Moreno (MD, psychiatrist) because of her past child/teen issues.
Stump’s 1st. afternoon on the job he met Maria (Inez’s daughter).
Dixon bought a red Cadillac.
He asked Delores to go to the Ferris wheel at Pacific Park.
Dixon made her an offer.
Carlsbad (beach town). Delores went to interview Yolanda Vigil (Hispanic, Illegal, rape victim).
Stump called his boss Mr. Kraft with a real lame excuse why he wouldn’t be showing up for work.
Manuel & Juanita did not like Dixon at all.
What did Stump find out about Dixon?
& who is Dominik Braun?
Sergeant Byrdswain (Palmdale PD) came to speak to Dixon about Rodger’s murder.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written murder mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great detective crime movie, or a mini TV series. To be continued. A very easy rating of 5 stars.
